Holiday world
The world that sits between Christmas and New Year feels very different. It is muted, quiet and in some ways out of balance. There is a disarming tension that exists with the different traffic patterns, daily sounds and routines. Time seems hard to figure out.
What day is it?
When do we need to put the garbage out?
What are we doing today?
I still start my day the same way, though with less urgency than on normal days. I putter. I play. I explore new ideas.
I spent a whole day working on a portrait study of John Hiatt. A full day later and I'm still making adjustments.
I always take some time to market, putting offers out into the world letting fans and followers know that I am still open for business. Some sales pitches strike, others do not. Like Wayne Gretzky said "You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take."
I do love when an item sells as it gives me a chance to build a box and go through the familiar routine of getting a painting or a print ready for shipping. I really like this busy work.
These days have been peppered with some wonderful family conversations. Our son Ben is filled with curiosities and is asking some really great questions about a broad range of subjects. He will head into the city tomorrow to spend some one on one time with his brother Dylan.
I am starting to mentally prepare for a Zoom painting workshop on Sunday. My sister Corinne and her monther-in-law will be joining me from her farm near Grande Prairie to paint a winter night scene.
