Charlie turns 89
The start of August always marks another trip around the sun for my father. Born in 1935, Charlie Thomas turned 89 on the first. He walks more slowly than he did in years past, but with the help of Mom, he keeps moving forward and doing the best he can. I love this photo of the two of them out for their evening walk. It makes me proud to know that they keep putting one foot in front of the other.
It was another busy week at Birdsong Studio High River as we get closer to full completion. We also hosted another tour of the house and studio, a dynamic group from Calgary. It gave me an opportunity to spend some time with Stephen Morgan, CEO of SEED Homes. That connection has been invaluable as we have gone through this process. He has grown into a trusted business partner and friend.
Jonathon, Zubair and Alex from SEED Homes spent the week working on the studio skirting and the "dog house", the housing for the HVAC system. Farmboy Landscaping got the deck done that wraps from the south side of the building around to the west side and the main entrance to the Bird's Nest, the Airbnb suite.
Today, we are hoping for some more progress with the main entrance steps to the studio and office and some landscaping. I'm sincerely hoping that SEED Homes will be able to call for final inspection next week. Crossing my fingers! Once that happens, we'll be in a position to apply for our business licence and finally open our doors.
While we haven't been able to have regular foot traffic, we have hosted over 100 people on tours of the house and studio, folks interested in the SEED Homes concept. Those visits have sparked unexpected purchases of art that happened to be hanging on the walls. We can't wait to be able to open the doors for everyone.
