There was a time, a long time ago, when the paintings I featured at 94 Take the Cake on historic Elma Street were vibrant with colour. Sherry Lindenback had invited me to share work on her walls, just a few doors west of Birdsong Studio 2.0, shortly after we arrived in Okotoks in 2019. In the months before Covid changed the world, Sherry came up with a brilliant idea to execute a complete redesign of the coffee shop and bakery.
"How would you feel about painting things in black and white only?" she asked.
"I'm totally happy to try," I answered.
From the first grouping of three paintings in the main room to the most recent addition of mugshots, the famous faces that have adorned the walls of Alberta's most unique coffee shop and bakery have numbered in the dozens.
