Home to Kamsack

 

Heather and I will be making the long trip back to Kamsack, Saskatchewan in the next few days.  Because of last year's move to Okotoks and this year's pandemic, it has been far too long since we've been able to visit with my mom and dad.  The break and the drive will be nice.  As I mentioned in a Facebook Live post yesterday, I am picking up an energy in the world that means in increase in demand for what we do in Birdsong Studio.  Commissions, requests for workshops, and sales are all picking up as the weather gets colder and we get deeper into the fall.

Perhaps because we have a trip planned, I got very productive over the last three days.  A total of 6 paintings were completed with two more in progress.  That said, they were three very long days.

I've had enormous fun doing this animals on black series.  There is something about a black background that just allows the colours and the character of the animals to POP!  I can see this series continuing for a long time.  The elephant (Kani), giraffe (Jerome), and rhino are sold, but the eagle on black is available.

Part of yesterday was dedicated to producing a painting that will replace the black and white Yoda painting at 94 Take the Cake.  Yoda was sold as a fundraiser for the Okotoks Arts Council during our recent auction.  Sherry and Krystoff, owners of 94, suggested Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas.  I was absolutely SHOCKED at the reaction, and the number of enquiries to buy the painting.  It has been pre-sold and will be passed along to the client in advance of Christmas to serve as an extra special gift.

The last thing I'll mention is that we are going to try a different way of making our gallery canvas prints available for purchase.  It will be a clean and simple way of viewing the inventory of options that will include an auction component in November. Stay tuned.
