The gift of time, the gift of writing

When I was a kid, we were strongly encourage (perhaps told) to write letters to our grandmother.  She was the one senior that mattered in our lives who did not live close.  Decades later, several of those letters returned to sender and gave me a unique view of my way of thinking as a youngster.

We are doing a contest right now where we are giving away a complete set of 25 animal art cards.  One great activity for families would be for the kids to pick their favourite animal and right a card to a senior that matters to them.  Imagine the reaction of a grand parent, uncle or aunt who receives a brightly coloured card full of warming words out of the blue.  Especially for those seniors living in a state of isolation with the Covid-19 situation, it would mean the world.

Entering the contest is super easy.  All you have to do is register for free and look at Heather's online art auction.  The task is to pick your favourite and share your choice and why you made it on the Russell Thomas Art Facebook Page.  We will make a random draw tonight and send off the set of art cards worth $125.

Of course, you can always use the cards to send thank you notes to first responders, doctors, nurses or caregivers who deserve encouragement.  While we have been able to flatten the curve, so to speak, there are multitudes of health care professionals and emergency responders who have been on the front lines of this thing from the very beginning.

The act of sitting down and hand writing a letter or note is becoming the exception rather than the rule.  This is an opportunity to rediscover the joy of writing, or to introduce it to someone young.  At the same time, you will be sharing some wonderfully colourful creatures that are sure to inspire a smile.
