Good morning Vietnam
I spent the night in the Hanoi airport. After I had some food, I found a row of three seats and staked out my claim. Using my fleece jacket and my flight pillow, I curled up and did my best to sleep, despite the kids running up and down, people talking and public service announcements.
I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up to go to the bathroom at 2 am, I was the only person as far as my eyes could see. The airport was asleep, and I felt like its only occupant. I was like Tom Hanks in the movie Terminal.
At one point in my sleep, I found myself laughing out loud at something that had happened in my sleep. I am glad that I was alone. That might have been embarrassing.
It is now 6:30 am local time and I am one of about ten people waiting at the gate. Perhaps this means that the flight will be light? Or maybe it means that there will be a rush of several hundred people in the next 60 minutes.
Next stop: Tokyo.
