Morning in Blue
I woke up yesterday morning with a question. What would happen if I did an abstract painting starting with only blues and purples? Where would it take me?
Using only a scraper and a cheap plastic palette knife I moved little piles of dark, medium and light blue around the canvas with a little bit of blue/violet. I let that dry and then started bringing in some highlights as the form of a tree scape or cityscape started to emerge.
Once that layer was dry, I repeated my steps one more time, to add some depth and some interesting levels.
At the very end, I added a few scrapes of rose pink to the sky.
Channeling what should have been a Miles Davis or John Coltrane song title, I have called it "Morning in Blue".
