My ayurvedic road to wellness

For the last few weeks, I've been doing an ayurvedic program, guided by Heather, in an attempt to clean out my system of bacteria and lose some weight at the same time.  Heather and her friend Anna have been learning all about eyurveda and I felt it was worth a try.

What is ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. Globalized and modernized practices derived from Ayurveda traditions are a type of complementary or alternative medicine. - Wikipedia

What that practically means to me is that Heather makes up a huge batch of "tea" which we both drink throughout the day.  She makes a yummy veggie smoothie every other day, full of nutrients, and slips me a few herbal pills at various times of the day.  That's it.

What have I noticed?

First of all, I'm slowly losing weight.  I'm down about 6 pounds in the first few weeks.  When I'm diligent and avoid my snacks, I can drop a pound or two in a day.  Unfortunately, my snacks all too often get the better of me.

Secondly, my finger nails seem better.  Over the last year, they have developed vertical ridges, indicating a deficiency of some kind.  While they are still ridged, they are less pronounced than before.

Truth be told, I haven't consistently added the walking component to my daily regimen.  I get lost in the studio and find myself bargaining my way out of going for a daily stroll.  I need to add that exercise piece to complete the picture of living well.

Ayurveda is an ancient and natural way to live a healthier life by tapping into your body's unique needs.  Heather can explain it way better than me.  I'm quite happy to be a participant without diving into the details.  I'm enjoying the slow but steady approach to wellness, using natural projects.
