The Wolf
I was in a dream, just before waking up, confronting a wolf. I rarely remember the crazy adventures of my sleep, but this one stands out. I'm guessing the wolf appeared because of what happened last night.
I spent the evening in the studio creating boxes for shipping a number of different finished pieces. I also got ready for the next big project for a local business. It was about 7:30 pm when I was about to start sketching out the next project when I had the flash of inspiration to spend the remainder of my evening in the studio doing something with my sister Corinne's canvas.
She painted a wolf during our family painting workshop over the Christmas holidays. She encouraged me to repurpose the canvas, as the finished product was not something that she wanted to keep. I took her up on her offer, but instead of painting over it with something new, I decided to add to her portrait of the wolf.
I wish I had a before photo, but I went looking and couldn't find one. It never occurred to me to snap a picture before starting last night. The only shot I have of it is partially hidden by Matthew's moose (above).
I went in very quickly and added warm tones of yellow, orange and red. I worked my way into some purple and Payne's grey and eventually started with the white and shades of green created by mixing quinacridone gold and phthalo turquoise.
It was a fun and free 45 minutes. I'll go in and add some finishing details tonight. This was the most fun I've had painting in weeks.
