River Station Arts
I was down at the Keyano end of Franklin for some business and found myself driving by River Station Arts. I couldn't resist the opportunity to pull in and have a look. Anastasia Meicholas is the operator of the facility which also contains WeeBounce Art Supplies, Frames by Fraser and myriad studios and what she called "hot" rooms.
"What do you mean by hot rooms?" I asked.
"Oh, that's where stuff gets made and it can get a little messy," she replied. There were several of these activity centres as Anastasia took me on a little tour, one for jewelry making, one for printing signs, and another for various projects - I think a piece of furniture was being constructed in that one.
I was blown away about the size of River Station Arts. Behind what looks to be the perimeter of the space sits a whole series of rooms including offices, a kitchen, meeting room, multi-purpose room and several studios.
It had been many months since I checked out Anastasia's collection of art supplies, back when she was working out of her garage downtown. She has done a good job increasing her inventory and has a nice shopping area in the heart of River Station Arts. If you're looking for paints, brushes, canvases or specialty art products, drop by for a visit. They are also offering a range of learning opportunities.
River Station Arts has the potential to grow into an arts hotbed in our community. Congratulations to Anastasia and her team for a job well done in getting set-up and operational. You can check them out on Facebook by clicking here, or visit them in person at 8130 Fraser Avenue. They are open daily from 10 am to 7 pm.
