Tiny moments

I have found it incredibly fulfilling to capture myriad moments on this blog in the last four and a half years that I've been writing it.  It's hard to believe that I will hit 1,000 posts, likely in July.  This platform gives me a place to share stories, ideas, and reflections, in a format that provides an archive of a blessed life.  As long as the Internet survives - and there is no reason to think that it won't - this narrative tapestry will always be a WiFi signal away, no matter where I am in the world.

It was an honour to capture the moment when Elsie Yanik viewed her mural portrait for the first time.  It has been wonderful to share stories of success and happiness. It has also been important to embrace moments of great sadness and defeat.  Whether it was losing my dear uncle last month, or losing the municipal election last fall, this is a venue where I've chosen to write about it all.  While choosing to write about certain things is not free of controversy or recrimination, I don't regret or bemoan a single post.

Yesterday was another day filled with moments and memories, as I worked with my new colleagues at the United Way of Fort McMurray to prepare for our Community Building Awards.  I was in awe of how everybody pitched in and worked like a well-oiled machine to plan and execute the event.

"It'll be all hands on deck," said Diane Shannon, our executive director earlier this week.  She was absolutely right, as we all embraced our respective roles and got it done.

As we sat back in the dressing room in the hour before our guests arrived, we enjoyed some dinner, shared some stories, and laughed together.  I felt grateful to be there, to be a member of a team so incredibly passionate about what they do, and why they do it.
