The future belongs...
I walk by it every day, filled with little slips of paper held up by magnets; drawings, photos and myriad other things blend into each other over time. For some reason, this message jumped out at me this morning; I had not noticed it previously.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
Eleanor Roosevelt said some amazing things in her long life.
"Do something every day that scares you" is one that publisher Darren Hardy (SUCCESS magazine) often cites.
I went online to look for a few more. One immediately jumped out at me.
"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people," she said.
Wow! There is so much meaning packed in those twelve words.
I'm a big believer in the idea that the universe sends us signals, messages that we are meant to see, but often don't, because we're moving through life too forcefully, nose to the grindstone, intent on moving forward without fully appreciating the beauty, or the messages, of the moment.
While I clearly see that the message on the fridge has something amazing to say, an encouragement that all of us can use, I believe it was there to bring me to the other quote.
Discussing great ideas, systems, complex challenges and concepts make my heart sing. Discussing events generates a sourness in the pit of my stomach. Discussing people is a sourness of a different order.
I'm as guilty as the next guy in rushing through life, focusing on the petty, unimportant stuff, and missing the messages and the big stuff that really matters. I need to slow down, pull back, reflect, and relish the moments. I also need to invest my time and talents on talking about and nurturing ideas. Thanks Eleanor.
