May Rain

The water drops fell throughout the night, a beautiful symphony to accent a deep sleep. Our windows are all open now, letting in the fresh smelling air and the sounds of both the rain and the birds.

There is something incredibly soothing about a spring rain, a recognition that the grass, the leaves, the gardens are soaking it all in -- smiling! We've also had wildfire warnings in our part of the world in recent days, suggesting that the forests are extremely dry. The trees and the muskeg will be smiling, too, so will the fire fighters.

I was exhausted by the end of work yesterday, needing to lie down after supper for a half an hour and in bed by 9:30 pm. The chiller on our building didn't seem to be working, allowing our work environment to warm up to 27.7 degrees. We all felt menopausal. I went for a quick workout at lunch and I was dripping with sweat after only 10 minutes. The heat was unrelenting.

The rain keeps falling, slowly, gently, as the morning breaks around me. The grass, leaves and gardens are smiling broadly.
